In ten years they might be working on tomorrow’s steel production, building wind farms at sea, or designing smart machines. Last week, more than 1,800 8th graders took their first step towards a future in technology. 🛠️⚙️

For three days, Sporthal De Walvis in Beverwijk was dedicated to PET IJmond, the annual Promotion Event for Technology. During this 21st edition, students participated in dozens of practical workshops: from experimenting and researching to building and programming. In this way, they experienced how versatile and surprising technology can be.

The aldermen Adam Elzakalai (Beaverwijk Municipality), Aad Schoorl (Heemskerk Municipality) and Bas Koppes (Velsen Municipality) also came by to see the young talents in action.

During the Parents & Children evening, parents and caregivers were able to attend workshops together with their children and learn about technical training and career opportunities. Because technical talent is in great demand in the IJmond region. In the steel, manufacturing, offshore and green energy industries, well-trained professionals are indispensable for innovation and sustainability. 💡🌱

Thank you to everyone who made PET IJmond possible: all the companies, schools and training organizations that provided workshops, the teachers and supervisors who came with their classes, and of course all the exhibitors who put their hands to work for three days. Without you, there would be no PET IJmond!

Since 2025, Techport PET IJmond has been implemented on behalf of SWITCH IJmond/Zuid-Kennemerland. The event is made possible through the STO IJmond/Zuid-Kennemerland and Techkwadraat schemes.
