Friday 31 May 2024 marked the grand opening of the Techport Innovation Centre, the development and meeting centre for the technicians of the future, businesses, education and government in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region, with a focus on IJmond. Housed in the Nova College Scheepvaart in IJmuiden, the Innovation Centre offers plenty of space to work, learn and innovate together for years to come.
Mark Denys, chairman of Techport: "With the arrival of the Innovation Centre, I expect we will be able to give a major boost to making the region more sustainable. From this 'hub', various companies and educational parties will work on innovations in cleaner and circular production, more energy-efficient maintenance and more sustainable transport.”

Exhibition of innovative projects
During the festive opening, several projects from the region showed their innovations for a sustainable IJmond region in an expo. Delegate Esther Rommel of the province of North Holland: "In this centre, talented students, smart researchers, ambitious entrepreneurs and inspiring teachers will get the opportunities needed to help the region move forward in its climate challenge. And that is vital in properly training sufficient technical staff in the region and far beyond."

Together towards the first green industrial zone
In ten years, Techport has become a dynamic network in which over 100 companies, schools and other partners work together on innovation, future-proof education and employability of technical staff, with a focus on Sustainable Industry and Smart Energy. Mark Denys: "It is not competition, but the common interest that drives us. Not for nothing is our mission 'together Towards the Netherlands' first green industrial zone'.
