On Thursday 10 April, the IJmond was full of Girls' Day 2025 - a nationwide movement to inspire girls to choose a future in STEM, engineering and IT. And what a beautiful day it was!
Together with companies such as VanDerEng B.V., Facta and Vicoma, and of course the fantastic Nova Smart Girls, we welcomed around 50 girls aged 13-14 from the Bonhoeffer College, VSO het Molenduin and the Vellesan College.
The morning consisted of tours and interactive technology workshops at the participating Techport companies. After lunch, the programme continued at the Nova College Beverwijk, where students from seven technical courses took the girls into the world of sustainability, ICT, construction and laboratory engineering, among others.
Also Tata Steel Academy opened its doors and welcomed more than 100 girls from primary and secondary schools - all curious about technology, innovation and their own talents.
💡 Why Girls' Day?
Because only 16% of engineering professionals are women. Because engineering is still often seen as a man's world. And especially: because girls underestimate their own technical skills at a young age.
Girls' Day makes a difference - by improving the system, not the girls themselves. After all, they are just right the way they are.
Thank you to all the participating schools, companies and partners who made the day possible!
