'Smart Industry' or smart industry is the far-reaching digitisation of devices, means of production and organisations. Through the 'internet of things', these are interconnected, giving rise to new ways of producing, business models and sectors.
Smart industries have great resource and cost efficiency and they can produce very flexibly, both in terms of the product (specifications, quality, design), volume (quantity) and delivery time.
According to the Implementation agenda 2018-2021 the Netherlands must have the most flexible and best digitally connected production network in Europe by 2021. The agenda was drawn up by the partners of the Smart Industry Team: FME, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, the Chamber of Commerce, the Koninklijke Metaalunie and TNO.
