Heemskerk consists of two main areas: the vast Noordhollands dune reserve (5 kilometres), bordered by the wide North Sea beach, and the residential area with lots of space and greenery. Heemskerk also has a large horticultural area with many greenhouses and two business parks. One of these, De Trompet, is considered a national example of sustainability and energy efficiency.
