FIX Make Education is a new teaching programme on the interface between art and technology for primary schools in the IJmond region. Initiators are Centrum voor de Kunsten Beverwijk and Cultuurhuis Heemskerk. Techport is a cooperation partner.

We live in a society that is digitising ever faster and in which technology has become the norm. At the same time, many people see technology as something difficult and elusive, creating an increasing distance between contemporary products or processes and its users. To close this gap, the Netherlands needs citizens with skills of and for the 21st century. In addition to media literacy and computer science, it is important that children learn other skills that are indispensable in this day and age: from solution-oriented thinking and creativity to entrepreneurship and cooperation.

Making education is learning (by making) and connects creativity with technology. FIX Make Education is all about learning through research and design. By investigating for yourself how something is made or could be made, you learn to solve problems, better understand the world and influence it. In this way, 'making' leads to new knowledge, insights and endless possibilities.
