Tiny machine learning event: working together on predictive maintenance!

The Tiny machine learning event featured several tech companies, teachers from educational institutions, coaches from Tatasteel Academy and staff from Techport. Tiny machine Learning is a relatively new technology that makes sensor technology and machine learning accessible.

The companies were welcomed during the event and a brief introduction was given about Techport. André Gerver, Quartermaster at Techport, then explained Tiny machine learning and what we can predict with this new technology in terms of maintenance. André: "Together with three companies where we have already set up previous use cases, we gave an explanation of the different tests in practice. This gave everyone a clear picture of how many different methods can be applied with this new technology. Then the participating companies were allowed to come up with their own use case for their own organization'.

Testing new technology in practice

Various use cases were reviewed and there was good mutual thinking. André: "During the meeting there were many like-minded people with the same professional background and often these organizations were struggling with the same problems. This created a lot of interaction between the attendees and there was a lot of thinking about solutions! We are currently visiting several organizations to investigate how much energy can be saved through Tiny machine learning. Often after monitoring this results in a saving between 10% and 30%. We are also going to set up a use case at a company by doing a safety study on certain substances in the company. At another organization, we have agreed to map water consumption. We are going to monitor the entire production line with the goal of predicting when too much water is consumed and rinse water clogging is imminent.'

Tiny machine learning community

Soon we will have another meeting where we will discuss the use cases from practice with the participating companies, feed back what the measurement results were and we can exchange experiences with each other. André is very pleased with the use cases. 'In addition to this, we intend to form Tiny machine learning communities with companies and students. So there are many more use cases to come!'
