Tiny House at Kennemer College Vocational

Sustainable living together is the common thread in the curriculum of Kennemer College Beroepsgericht. But sustainable living must also become tangible and visible. In order to put its money where its mouth is and drive developments, Kennemer College recently started the 'Tiny House' project.

Students at the school design, construct and build a zero-energy, self-sufficient tiny house. No water, electricity or other energy is supplied. Water is provided by collecting rainwater and reusing it after filtering it in an ecosystem. Electrical energy is generated with solar panels and water is heated as much as possible in a solar collector. Within this project, cooperation between students of the school, with students of the Nova College and crossovers, in which technology is linked to other non-technical profiles, is encouraged. Elementary schools can also attend a workshop to learn about the sustainable techniques of a Tiny House.

The structure is currently being manufactured into transportable parts in the Kennemer College workshop by students under the supervision of a teacher. At the construction site, the structure will be built and assembled in a short period of time, supported by MBO students and also under the guidance of local businesses.

This project is made possible in part by Sterk Techniek Onderwijs IJmond/Zuid-Kennemerland, in which Techport is also one of the partners.
