Friday, May 31, 2024 marked the grand opening of the Techport Innovation Centre, the development and meeting center for the technicians of the future, businesses, education and government in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region, with a focus on the IJmond region. The Innovation Centre is housed in the Nova College Scheepvaart in IJmuiden, and for the next few years offers plenty of space to work, learn and innovate together.
Mark Denys, chairman of Techport: "With the arrival of the Innovation Centre, I expect that we will be able to give a major impulse to the sustainability of the region. From this 'hub', various companies and educational parties will work on innovations in the field of cleaner and circular production, more energy-efficient maintenance and more sustainable transport."

Exhibition of innovative projects
During the festive opening, several projects from the region showed their innovations for a sustainable IJmond region in an expo. Commissioner Esther Rommel of the Province of North Holland: "In this center, talented students, smart researchers, ambitious entrepreneurs and inspiring teachers are given the opportunities needed to help the region further in its climate challenge. And that is of great importance in properly training sufficient technical personnel in the region and far beyond."

Together towards the first green industrial zone
In ten years, Techport has become a dynamic network in which over a hundred companies, schools and other partners work together on innovation, future-proof education and employability of technical personnel, with a focus on Sustainable Industry and Smart Energy. Mark Denys: "Not competition, but the common interest drives us. Not for nothing is our mission 'together towards the first green industrial zone of the Netherlands'.
