Students and companies working together on Tiny Machine Learning

Students and companies partnered on Tiny Machine Learning on Feb. 17, 2023.

On Friday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2023, technical business administration, data science and master of applied artificial intelligence students from InHolland University of Applied Sciences and Hogeschool van Amsterdam, along with clients, gathered at Techport for the first Learning Community on Tiny Machine Learning.

What did these students have in common? They all - through Techport - get to work on Tiny Machine Learning issues from companies in Techport's network. Hilton Foods Holland, Biscuits International and Tata Steel all have an issue in the field of process optimization, where the (new) technology of Tiny Machine Learning can be the solution to the issue.

Predictive maintenance through Tiny Machine Learning

Tiny Machine Learning is a relatively new technology that makes sensor technology and machine learning accessible. Tiny Machine Learning is wireless, inexpensive and secure. It allows you to immediately start "sticking sensors" on assets. This allows you to perform predictive maintenance, for example, saving costs and increasing efficiency. Techport sees many opportunities for SMEs to get started with Tiny Machine Learning and therefore started this learning community: for the companies, students and teachers.

For example, Kasper Tiebie of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and Sjoerd Sas of InHolland will be using smart sensors to monitor the entire packaging line at Hilton Food Services over the next six months. In addition, Maurice Bras of InHolland is going to look into reducing noise pollution at Tata Steel, after a group of students from the Hogeschool van Amsterdam developed a measurement methodology for this.

After a brief introduction and an exchange of issues, bottlenecks and approaches, the Learning Community Tiny ML participants were given a tour by Mark Denys, chairman of Techport at Tata Steel. You could say a playground when it comes to picking up Tiny ML related issues. The Learning Community will meet regularly in the coming period to exchange knowledge.

Sign up business session Tiny Machine Learning

If you are a manufacturer and have a potential issue in the area of process optimization, environmental nuisance or maintenance and Tiny Machine Learning could be a solution, sign up for the Tiny ML business session on Friday, March 10 from 12:00 to 14:00 at the Tata Academy. We will then get to work on your issue.

Do you have questions about the corporate session Tiny Machine Learning? Feel free to contact André Gerver at a.gerver@techport.nl.
