Meeting: lubricant testing in field lab
In late April, Techport hosted a meeting on smart lubrication in collaboration with Techport company Dex-Oil, with the goal of testing whether a relatively new nanolubricant saves energy, requires fewer maintenance intervals and reduces emissions of both CO2 and NOx.
Lubrication specialists working together
At this Innovation Tribe, lubrication specialists from Facta, Royal Navy, Tata Steel, Tata Academy, Babcock and IJssel Technology met with oil representatives. Remarkably, when choosing the oil, not only is the technical performance of the oil considered, but also the environmental impact. What does the nanotechnology-based oil do when it is left in the environment? Will it then biodegrade properly?
All participants indicated that they would cooperate in additional tests in the Techport Fieldlab. In addition, they will provide test setups of rotating equipment, looking - together with students - mainly at technical performance. In addition, additional research will be conducted by the supplier into the exact composition of the oil and its environmental impact, so that the door to wider application in industry can be further opened.
