De Hoge Ven elementary school wins Techport RC Cup

HEEMSTEDE - Primary school De Hoge Ven from Warmenhuizen won the Techport RC Cup on Friday, May 12, 2023. The school drove the most laps in three heats and also scored high in the Communication and Design & Sponsoring categories.

This year, 27 teams participated in the RC Cup. "For us, it's proof that many schools are embracing the RC Cup as a context-rich educational program," said Erik de Mink of the Tata Steel Academy and Challenges project leader at Techport. "The RC Cup is more than just driving around in a radio-controlled car. The whole class works together on various assignments in the areas of communication, design, sponsorship and, of course, technology." Students learn to discover their own talents and how they can achieve the best team performance together. And that during an educational program that the teacher can combine with math, language and making education.

Shirts

Creative students create t-shirts, design logos and take care of the appearance of the cars. From design to painting or spraying the blank hoods. To cover the cost of needed materials and parts to maintain or improve the car, marketers and public relations managers contact businesses for sponsorship money. To handle communication with the area and sponsors, the teams build websites, facebook pages and Tiktok videos.

Braderie

Students are very creative and when they are free to find their way they come up with surprising ideas to improve team performance," said Hans Nooij of the Tata Steel Academy and judge during the RC Cup. "We have been organizing the RC Cup for 14 years now and every year there are teams that surprise us. Now there were teams that organized a bingo night at school with prizes from local shopkeepers. And there was a school that managed to raise money with a fair. Good for extra batteries, a quick charger and seed money for the 2024 RC Cup."

Results

It was exciting, the teams were evenly matched. Winners had only 1 or 2 points more than the schools that finished second or third.

The Montessori School from Beverwijk won the Communication Award. The Bethel School (Beverwijk) won the Design & Sponsoring Award. De Hoge Ven won the Speed Award. The school from Warmenhuizen collected the most points across all three categories and is the winner of the Techport RC Cup 2023.

Continuing Education

On May 26, 21 teams from secondary schools will drive the RC Cup. Also at Model Auto Club Heemstede.
