Breathless watching technology experiments during online PET IJmond Show
On Thursday, Oct. 8, was the Promotional Event Technique (PET) IJmond Show for grade 8 students from elementary school in the IJmond region during Techport Technology Week. In the livestream show, students were given a live demonstration of various experiments and tests by Professor Vanessa van Alles of MadScience and competed with as many as 180 teams consisting of more than 900 students for the one and only PET IJmond trophy.
Pupils from various elementary school in the region were taken through the 7 worlds of technology on the basis of an exciting quiz. This gave the students a playful impression of how versatile technology is. They competed against each other by answering technical questions. The questions the children had to answer included "How many horsepower does the ship the Scombrus of fishing company Cornelis Vrolijk from IJmuiden have in total?" and "What is the name of the technique you use to join two metals together?". These questions were asked in videos by various engineering heroes from the region. Organizations that participated included Microtechnology, Cornelis Vrolijk, CareWorx, MHI Vestas, Tata Steel, De Bie Buitenwerk and Bouwmensen. The reactions of the teachers were very enthusiastic: 'Children are breathlessly watching and enjoying' and 'Congratulations, what a lot of fun you've had doing this'.
Techport Technology Week 2020
The PET IJmond TV Show is part of the online Techport Technology Week. From October 5 through 9, students in grade 8 of primary and lower secondary schools, parents and teachers will be immersed in the 7 worlds of technology. The goal of this week is to interest as many students as possible in technology.
