Techport seeks sniffing status holders: 'We're waiting for people'

Techport is working with the municipalities of Beverwijk and Velsen to introduce status holders to the technical companies in IJmond. In this way, the status holders learn about job opportunities in the technical sector and the companies can appeal to a new target group of potential colleagues. As such, Merel Jonkman of BTAC Solutions calls it a win-win situation: "We are waiting for people and they want to do something meaningful."

According to Margriet Lautenschutz of Techport, there are a lot of potential new workers who participate in this program and learn more about the technical world. "On the ship we have had interviews with 29 status holders and now we are working with a group of 11 status holders. In total it is a group of 150 people who are looking and we are now continuing our exploration."

The status holders cannot start work right now because they have not yet become established. Still, according to Techport, it is not too early for them to take a look around. "We don't wait until they have mastered the Dutch language and have completed their integration, we deliberately let them explore technology now," says Margriet Lautenschutz.

According to Lautenschutz, this is being received very positively. "People are very happy and I notice that it is also very successful to use ambassadors who have already experienced this. Here at this company a few people already work who come from Syria and you see that it is then easy to make contact with the status holders."

Mohammad says he finds the tour interesting, but it's not quite his cup of tea. "I came to the Netherlands two years ago and am working on learning the language and in the meantime I'm not working yet. I'm always busy, especially with sports, so I don't find it frustrating not to work yet."

There is certainly hope that things will work out for Mohammad: He eventually wants to work with air conditioners and heating systems because he has experience in those. Other status holders who have sniffed around BTAC are very enthusiastic and may be able to work for the company in the future.
