Extend life of bearings
"The new generation of technicians should know that they have a huge impact on bearing life, process continuity and safe working practices," says Jeroen Heerdt of Techport company SKF. Jeroen provides training for users of SKF's products. A bearing reduces friction between two rotating parts and is found in many devices such as an electric toothbrush or cars, but also in technical applications. Through his training courses, Jeroen wants to make trainees aware to treat the bearing correctly and thus directly extend its service life.
At the beginning of the year, Jeroen gave a number of webinars for Techport's network on the basics of Bearing Technology. Jeroen: "There was a lot of positive response to these webinars, and as a result I gave a workshop in cooperation with Tata Steel and the Nova College. In the car industry, rail transport and aerospace, people are well aware of how to handle bearings. After all, if you already damage a bearing in the assembly of a helicopter, this can have major consequences. In the industry, we also want to impart this awareness. Proper assembly and maintenance ensures much longer life of bearings, and thus the installation. Work can be done safely and production continues continuously. What I like most are the guys who suck the knowledge out of you and actually start applying it, which ultimately makes the bearings last longer. The reliability of the installation is thereby improved, work is done more safely and the sometimes bizarre consequences of a failing bearing are avoided."
