Engineering talents beware!

From Monday, October 4 to Friday, October 8, the Techport Technology Week will be organized for the third time. A week in which over 4000 primary and secondary school students and 400 teachers and parents from the IJmond region, can discover their own or their child's technology talent.

Nationwide, there is a great shortage of technicians. Especially in the IJmond region, where the manufacturing and maintenance industry is large, we notice this. This is why Techport, together with partner companies and schools, is organizing Techport Technology Week. The week in which students, parents and teachers are enthused about technology. We let them experience and discover where technology is, and especially what opportunities there are for a bright future in technology.

Opening TTW
The start of Techport Technology Week is on October 4 in the brand new Kennemer Techlab with none other than Astronaut André Kuipers. He will take attendees into the wonderful world of technology, innovation and sustainability.

Promotion Event Technique (PET).
The 2,000 elementary school students will see and experience the versatility of technology during PET IJmond on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 7 and 8). In Sporthal De Walvis in Beverwijk, group 8 pupils can build, try, taste, program, guess and calculate for themselves at 30 different workshops. In short: experience!

Over 600 pupils from group 7 participate in the online PET IJmond Quiz. The students compete for the coveted PET IJmond trophy against other classes. This interactive quiz also includes 10 questions posed by employees of technical companies from IJmond.

Smart Maintenance
We are hosting 700 upper secondary school students during Smart Maintenance Day on Tuesday, October 5. In recent weeks, the 'Smart Maintenance Test Team' has been on the road at 7 companies to find out what Smart Maintenance is. The students are immersed in Smart Maintenance through workshops and watching the test team's vlog videos. The ROC Nova College shows what courses there are with Smart Maintenance.

Tech Your Talent on tour
On Wednesday, October 6, 15 companies from the region will open their doors and receive over 600 students from the lower grades of secondary education. The students experience what technology is like at the company through a tour and an explanation and/or workshop by the company. The students will also visit the H20 Esport Campus in Purmerend, a real gaming, esports and creative tech campus.

Parents, please sign up!
Parents play an important role in choosing an advanced education and school. To support parents we show what the opportunities and possibilities are in technology. Parents can participate with their son or daughter in the online PET IJmond Quiz on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The quiz is open to all. You will compete against other parents and children for the PET IJmond Cup 2021, but of course mainly for the honor. This year, for the first time, it is also possible to visit the PET together with your child. On Thursday, Oct. 7, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., you can drop by sports hall De Walvis and do a number of technical do-activities. Registration is required for both events.

Study day primary school teachers
In cooperation with Sterk Techniek Onderwijs and the Techport schools from the IJmond region, Techport is organizing a special study day on October 6, 2021 on which teachers will be inspired to look differently at technique and technology. On this day they will discover what it takes for students to discover their (technical) talents and thus give them a future-oriented foundation. In the afternoon the teachers will also get to work themselves during a visit to the Smart Technology Hotspot of Technisch College Velsen and the Kennemer Techlab of Kennemer College.

In addition to the many companies, schools and organizations cooperating, Techport Technology Week is financially supported by Tata Steel, Crown van Gelder, Province of North Holland, Municipality of Velsen, Municipality of Heemskerk, Municipality of Beverwijk, Strong Technique Education, Kim Plus Delta, GWOC, Megacon, Moens Moulding, Harsveld, Post and Dekker, AYOP, Z-bridge, Bosma and Bronkhorst, Post Staalbouw, Blok System Supply, Building Careers and Boon Learning.
