Collaboration Techport and OV IJmond yields innovation voucher for BSE Ymond

Techport company BSE Ymond receives a feasibility voucher Smart Industry of 10.000,- from the subsidy program EFRO Kansen voor West II. The specialist in the field of aerial work platforms and machine construction from Beverwijk receives this amount for applying smart maintenance to machines. Techport applied for a voucherfor BSE Ymond and now supports the realization of the innovation. This will allow BSE Ymond to develop new technology to better serve their customers and deliver higher quality.

BSE Ymond stands for Beentjes Service Engineering and was founded in 1996 by Anton and Jaap Beentjes. The company develops and builds, entirely in-house, machines for very diverse applications in greenhouse construction, agriculture, industry and railroad work. Jaap Beentjes: "We build machines and they go all over the world. Sometimes the machines break down and an employee has to travel to South Korea, for example, to replace a small part. Of course we earn money from this, but you still have to deal with a dissatisfied customer. We only want satisfied customers. It can always happen that something breaks down because of something you can't foresee, such as damage. But there are also parts that don't have to break down if you monitor the condition properly. If you exchange and analyze data preventively, the customer doesn't have downtime and we don't have high travel costs."

BSE Ymond wants to perform this "smart" maintenance in order to add value for the customer. Jaap: "Most important part to monitor is hydraulic oil, this is actually the blood of the machine. The same as with the body, when there is discomfort you take blood and an analysis is done. In the oil you can see how the wear is. The amount of wear parts that are in the oil says something about the condition of your machine. By monitoring the oil, we want to collect data on which we eventually hope to see after how many hours, for example, wear occurs. Future machines we want to implement with sensors that monitor oil. We will link these sensors to a database and we will analyze that data."

With a feasibility voucher Smart Industry from the ERDF Kansen voor West II grant program, companies can submit a project of which they want to test the feasibility of implementing digitalization in the manufacturing process. Examples of applications are artificial intelligence, big data & data analytics, blockchain, 3D printing, robotics and sensors. BSE Ymond's innovation came about with the help of Techport. Jaap: "Through OV IJmond, I came into contact with Techport and we organized an Innovation Tribe. At such a Tribe, companies and schools from the network of Techport and OV IJmond came together to work on our innovation issue. One of the things that came out of this was that we need to start monitoring data in order to be more service-oriented and avoid customer downtime. Techport encouraged us to actually start implementing this and found the right parties for us and applied for a grant. We are extremely happy that this was recognized. We will now start and see if we can get enough data out of it and see what we can do with it concretely. Ultimately, it does have to start making us and our customers money."
Several Techport companies have already offered their specialties. Jaap: "For example, Post and Dekker wants to look together with us at servitization: a new way to link services to our products. Bilfinger Tebodin sees opportunities in modular design. With TES Industrial Service, we are going to investigate how to make scissor elevators hybrid. The energy released during the lowering of the scissor elevator can be used again during lifting. And when we have all developed great things later on, we can also share the information with other companies within Techport. Because if you pass on knowledge, you also get something in return. That's what I like about the collaboration within Techport."
